Park Day Service Trip

Volunteers from Alpha Kappa and Springfield sororities take a break from working on Park Day.

On April 3, 2009, Alpha Kappa sent 45 men to Springfield, Missouri, to team up with two sororities, Alpha Sigma Alpha and Alpha Delta Pi, in one large community service effort. The group participated in the Annual Park Day, at Wilson’s Creek National Battlefield, by doing approximately five miles of highway and two miles of stream cleanup, accomplishing various painting projects, assisting with the construction of several steel sheds, and various other work that the preservation staff could not normally get done.

The men were provided lodging by a friendly Baptist church, where they were able to shower and utilize a large basement full of games and a ping-pong table.

In their down time on the trip, Alpha Kappa wasn’t going miss an opportunity to socialize with the beautiful girls of Missouri State. The men set up two socials, one a night, with two separate sororities – Delta Zeta and Alpha Sigma Alpha. Approximately 30 of the lovely ladies from Delta Zeta house spent Friday evening bowling with almost all of the men attending the trip from PiKA, and on Saturday evening, a group of the men, along with the ladies of Alpha Sigma Alpha, attended an ice-skating social.

All in all, the weekend trip provided for over 1,500 community service hours, social opportunities with three different sororities, and a great time had by all!
