Welcome To Rush
Welcome to the Rush page for the Alpha Kappa chapter of Pi Kappa Alpha at UMR. We are glad you made it here and would like to know more about you, at the same time letting you know a little more about what we do as members of Pi Kappa Alpha. In this section you will find information about joining Pikes at UMR, a map and directions to the house, a tour through our beautiful house, and a new member scholarship you will be eligible for your first year. Check the calendar and events section for upcoming Rush events and to see what we have going on around the house. The doors are always open and you are always welcome at the house, so anytime you are in the area come by. If you have questions, or need anything you can contact the current Rush chairs, Josh Heger, or Chaz Blaschke, or the Rush captain in your area (see below). You will find an interest form under the Rush menu that can be filled out so that we can contact you.
What is Rush?
Recruitment, or "Rush", is a process of mutual selection between a college man and a Fraternity. This is the time before you pledge the Fraternity when you are deciding what house is best for you. There is no pressure. It is a chance for both parties to learn more about each other to ensure the correct choice is made. At UMR we have an “informal Rush”, meaning that you can decide to join at any time after you have been bid by the Rush chairmen, or Rush captains. A bid is simply the formal invitation to pledge the Fraternity the following semester. The bid will be administered when the Rush chairmen (or captains) feel you fit the mold of a Pike and will be a positive addition to the house. We are always looking for the best men to recruit to join our ranks. We are not looking for average men, we are interested in well rounded individuals that are competitors in all aspects of life. He should be a scholar, a leader, an athlete, and most of all a gentleman.
